Vs only get better with age (prob is I can't stay away long enough, perhaps a year at best for me...but 3-5yrs & they will sing) as for bite, tough call the age might smooth those rough edges, but if any blend smoked too fast/hot esp. Vs, they will BITE you :puffy:

I have never found tobaccos to bite if smoked properly and in my opinion to think aging tobaccos will compensate for inadequate smoking technique is a myth. Aging Virginia tobaccos will change the flavor profile but if smoked aggressively they will still bite the inexperienced pipe smoker like any other tobacco.
I know how to smoke just fine some Virginia do have a tendency to bite no matter how you smoke them they might not burn but they bight I did not ask if you thought my smoking technique was right i asked if the tendency for those said tobacco would mellow out with age and completely remove any said bite. I get a sense from allot of your post you feel like you have reached pipe smoking nirvana and anyone who has a question related to what could be pipe technique issues don't know how to smoke. Maybe you just have a leather tongue.

You can get tongue burn from poor smoking technique.

You can get tongue bite from a chemical reaction caused by the pH level in the tobacco. I have no idea if aging the tobacco will change this.
Russ Ouellette explains the difference between bite an burn in his article Common Misconceptions (3rd paragraph).

In my younger years, tongue bite was sought after. . . and then I took up the pipe!

I agree with Mason..., it couldn't hurt. There are some Virginia blends that bite irrespective of how much age they have, how they are smoked, what Pipes they are smoked in, how low or how high the Rh is and just about any other factors that you can think of. Fortunately, these are few so I just don't smoke them anymore. Age will smooth out some blends with bright Virginias in them, mostly somewhere between 1-5 years seems to get the best results. The darker mature Virginias don't seem to have the potential to bite for the most part. For me, the way to reduce the potential for bite without having to wait years for a blend to mellow out is to smoke it a bit on the dry side in a clean Pipe. Another choice is to blend in some Perique in amounts of less than 2% by weight. This is a topic that has no shortage of opinion and by the time all of the factors are discussed, you will have well aged tobacco.

Aging a virginia can certainly help smooth it out. I have found that both Hartwell Signature and McCranie's Red Ribbon are much mellower with 5 years on them - and they are darn good smokes anyway. :puffy:
