Netflix also had a GLOW sitcom recently.

Wrestling is like a soap opera primarily focused towards men. I go through phases with watching wrestling. The current product doesn't really capture my attention.

Yea, I like the naivety of what I watched back in the day- Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Roddy Roddy Piper, Junkyard Dog, etc... it was random, absurd and under-produced which made it appealing at the time.

I never saw GLOW but I have seen some videos on YouTube.

Grew up with wrestling in the 1980's. Hogan, Andre, Jake the Snake, The Midnight Express and Jim Cornette, Rick Flair and The Four Horsmen, the Von Erich's vs The Fabulous Freebirds. The British Bulldogs.

An awesome time that I didn't think could get any better but then the Attitude Era came along and I loved it even more. Stone Cold vs Vince, The Rock, D-Generation X, Bret Hart and the screw job, Kurt Angle. I don't think wrestling will ever be as good as it was then. Too politically correct and pg. I stopped watching and only got back into it because of CM Punk.

Couldn't agree more. I started watching AEW because of Punk but I cancelled my WWE Network subscription a couple of years back.
I prefer watching old videos on YouTube. I was watching a couple the other day. When Stone Cold disguised himself as a doctor and attacked Vince with a bedpan 😂.

The last era of wrestling I could get into was WWE when Sting and Rick Flair were on there... funny as I never watched WWE before that just WWF (and never heard of Rick Flair for that matter)--it had a different vibe about it. A little more gritty, lo-fi or something than WWF which I dug. The 80s WWF stuff seemed better suited for tween years.

My dad took me to see "rasselin" when I was ten or so. I saw Sandro Szabo, Georges Carpentier, Wild Red Berry, Georgous George. and a couple of other lesser knowns. Must have made an impression on me to remember the names. But, I could never work up any real interest knowing it was scripted. But, Carpentier's athleticism and his war record made an impression for sure. Nearly a packed gymnasium but, apparently didn't make enough moneys for the promoter to ever bring in another show. Possibly Alaska was too far North.

I watched a lot of wrestling in the 80s and '90s... Probably too much. I had a big thing for a couple of ladies from American Gladiators, Mrs. Elizabeth, Lita, Sunny, Sable & my all time favorite Stacy Kiebler...

My wife and I live in a century old home, previously owned by Ray Ekert and his wife Dorothy.

Ray and Dorothy were both born in 1917 met when they were 16, married when they were 18, and lived happily ever after until Ray died in 1996 and Dorothy a few years later.

Like most Campbellites of his generation Ray’s life ambition was to guard the President of the United States.

He lived to see his son Gordon guard Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton, and Gordie retired guarding the younger Bush.

But jobs were scarce in 1935, and Ray became a professional wrestler, retiring in 1954 to run a Western Auto store with Dorothy until 1988.

Ray was a gentle giant. In retirement he performed wrestling exhibitions with Harley Race, and taught kids to swim (he was a lifeguard in high school) and was a pillar of the local Christian Church.

I’ve watched Ray show his cauliflower ears to children who asked if professional wrestling was faked. He never turned their idols into stones, you know?

His store was next door to my office. About every day at noon Gordon would call his Mama, who’d warn him to be careful. Ray was so proud Gordon stood beside the President, fulfilling the ancient motto

Non ministrari, sed ministrare
