I like to smoke several different brands each day. I only usually smoke one bowl of Dunhill Flake as I like it last thing at night before heading off to bed. On the other hand, I can smoke several bowls a day of any of the other blends I have open at the time. Despite this, I seem to get through the Flake faster than anything else! Even though I rub the flakes out, I'm always having to stock up on the Dunhill.
Does anyone else find that they go through Flake cut faster than other cuts?

Same here, always, don't matter how I rub it out or how I load it up, been like that for 40yrs and it's something I have never bothered to think about, just excepted it.

I also rub my flakes out and havent really noticed a difference between them and the other cuts of tobacco I smoke. Actually, if anything, my flakes seem to burn a bit slower than a coarse cut tobacco.

Seems the opposite for me.

Ounce for ounce the flake goes a bit longer for me in that a bowl, folded rather than rubbed out, smokes longer.
Only exception that comes to mind has been the one tin of SG St. James Flake I've had. Disappeared in record time! Of course that prolly had more to do with the number of bowls I smoked of it each day!

I rub my flakes out at least partially but find that they do sometimes last longer than ready-rubbed or ribbon cut tobaccos.

I find the flakes last longer as I do not rub them out, I like the fold better. It last's longer and I don't have to re-light very often at all with flakes.

Sorry - I didn't make my question very clear in my original post. Each individual bowl of Flake tobacco lasts longer than ready rubbed but, even though I only smoke one bowl of Flake a day, I seem to get through tins of it faster than blends I smoke 2 or 3 times a day!

There may be more tobacco packed into one flake than in a pinch of the loose stuff. 50g of flake takes up less volume than 50g of loose cut, so perhaps you smoke more flake by weight than volume per bowl as with the others. I assume you have taken bowl size into consideration? I never thought about it once, but a plug doesn't last me as long as a tin of flake either, when they all weigh the same.

You are right withnail, A bowlfull lasts longer but you put more in because the tobacco weight is more compact even when rubbed out therefore you are smoking more tobacco to the bowlfull, good word bowlfull, is it in the dictionary ?

I guess you are right Tobakenist & Rigmedic1. It just surprised me to see how many empty flake tins I had compared to ready rubbed. When rubbed out, Dunhill Flake is certainly a finer cut than, say Sam Gawith ribbon cuts, which I also smoke a lot of. I keep wanting to put some DF aside to see how it ages, but always end up running out and opening another tin! :)

Sounds to me like you may have a tobacco burglar in the neighborhood. Do you have any pipe smoking neighbors who never seem to run out?

I tend to get fewer bowls out of a flake tin than mixture tins: maybe 15-17 Groups3-4s vs. 17-20. But the average time to finish a bowl of flake is maybe 20-30% longer.
