I enjoy several tobaccos with Latakia: the old Balkan Sobranie, Stokkebye's English Oriental, Peterson's Old Dublin among others. But for some reason My dislike for McClelland's blends with Cyprian is growing. Blue Mountain and 3 Oaks are the problem blends for me, Full Balkan to a lesser degree. Does anyone else have this reaction? They must be doing something in the curing which, to me, gives it a metallic taste. Aging for some time improves it. I haven't yet tried long term aging, but will. I ordered some 3 Oaks with Syrian, and am hoping it will be more to my liking. Now these are very popular tobaccos, so it might be possible that this reaction is because of a quirk in my taste. I would appreciate hearing from Lat lovers about this, and would also be grateful for recommendations of great Lat blends from other companies.

I'm not who your post is directed at, but I will say that as a blank slate taster of 3 Oaks Syrian (it's the only latakia blend I have ever tried) I love it and it has me wanting to try other latakia blends.

Well, McClelland makes the Frogs and those are very good ..... I have also smoked their Wilderness blend and it was pretty good even though I found it a bit heavier tasting than what I like ( probably the Red VA ). Due to cost I don't venture into trying any of their other tinned offerings.

Baronsamedi: Thanks for the Black House recommendation. I saw some great reviews of it. Will add some to my next order.

I just tried the Syrian Full Balkan. My tastebuds find it excellent, not metallic tasting like the Cyprian. A great tobacco, actually.

I have not smoked many of McClelland's latakia blends. I liked Blue Mountain very much, the Frogs not at all. Would have to look through my log to remember any others. :puffpipe:

If you need to find a new home for any left over Blue Mountain, please drop me a PM. I picked up a tin at the KC pipe show and, if I could, I'd inject that stuff under my tongue via a cardiac needle.

Yeah too bad the Syrian is going bye bye. It's great stuff. Maybe some sneaky American will figure out how to recreate the flavor.

Is McC finally running out of Syrian? I know they were the only ones here in the States that had any after that warehouse fire a number of years ago.

Blue Mountain was wonderful. I think I smoked the tin in a week. I got to try the 3 Oaks next.
