EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9)

Good evening fellas. It’s been awhile since I’ve posted. Had to take a break from the digital pipesmoking world and just enjoy smoking through my cellar for a few years. And just needed a break from digital media in general.

Anyway, the reason why I’m posting is simply to share my own experience. Perhaps it might relate to yours (or someday relate to yours). So many of my favorite blends have disappeared. All of Mccelland’s offerings, obviously, and their Orientals were among my favorites. (Their Virginia lovers must still be crying in their beer). Dunhill caves and gets picked up by Peterson, which is great. But discontinues London Mixture?? John Brandt (what a guy!) picks up Wilke, but No.10 is discontinued because the right tobaccos just aren’t available any more? Who knows what’s next. The point of this post is that, while I did stock up on these and others of my favorite blends, we just don’t know which is the next shoe to drop. And, in retrospect, while I thought I was being extravagant, I didn’t stock up nearly enough. So as a PSA to pipesmokers everywhere, I encourage you to stock up as much as you can afford on your favorite blends. You never know when they may disappear forever. And that’s a damn shame.

I just put in a few big orders at P&C, Wilke, SmokingPipes, and Peretti. And I think it might be the smartest money I’ve ever spent after what’s happened over the past few years. Anyway, YMMV, but wanted to share my experience. I’m not going to wake up one day and be without (what’s left of) my favorite blends.

I’ve got an even worse problem. The tobacco keeps disappearing from my pipe. I pack the pipe and get it properly drawing and the next thing I know all the damn tobacco is gone! It’s outrageous!!! I paid good money for that stuff and the pipes weren’t cheap either, so you can imagine my dismay to find it keeps happening. I demand answers! It’s not like I’ve got money to burn.

?

On a more serious note, I understand your dilemma. There were a few years that snuck by without me realizing how many local tobacconists and shops were disappearing. All of a sudden I realized the brands and blends and blenders were also gone and the situation was getting worse by the minute. That’s when I built up a cellar. No regrets about it, it’s money well spent. Lots of stuff in there that’s long gone from the market now but I can still enjoy it.
