What is the difference between Plastic, Lucite or Acrylic stems and how can you tell the difference if the stem is black?
Is Lucite a very thin type Glass or more like Plastic?
How to tell if you have Lucite or Plastic?

Lucite is very, very hard. Has a real "click" to it when it hits your teeth. Will never require polishing. Other plastics like ABS and polyester feel much more... well, plasticy in your teeth. Vulcanite bits are much less hard, feel better on the teeth, and willshow more wear both due to oxydation (turns grey) and tooth marks.

Don't own a Lucite stem and hope not to. Just not comfortable for me. I suppose if I found a pipe I HAD to have with a Lucite bit, I'd add a softee.

What "common" pipe company uses a cheaper acrylic?

Grabows come with ABS correct? And mm 's have plastic?

I think you can have an acrylic straight black one as well.

You can photoman...I have 2 stans with black bits. They're listed as acrylic/lucite.

I have a meer (I'm smoking now) that has acrylic but doesn't seem the same quality, which could be my imagination since I've never noticed this until now! Thanks yous guys!!! :rofl:
