Probably not! Nonetheless, as the weather turned chilly here, I spent some time in the workshop addressing some old pipes that I had put off reworking. Check out this Dr. Grabow "Golden Duke". It's an "Aristomatic" and even has a patent number!

Have you ever run across stems like this?

Lots of cake. Whoever owned this pipe enjoyed it.

A lot of cleaning on this pipe. AWESOME! cleanser, 600-grit wet/dry sandpaper, lots of water and some elbow grease resulted in this:

The Dremel tool and buffing compounds completed the task.

The stummel didn't want to release its cake, but after several different techniques tried, it's clear. The pipe was sanded, buffed, dyed, buffed so more, waxed, and polished. All told, this little fix-up required an hour and a half:

Indeed.

Sometimes the oxidation goes so deep that by the time you "reach black" you're through to the airway behind the button, and there's a huge step at the shank/stem transition.

In those cases the only option is replacement. Or live with the green, of course.

There is no "C".
