Is this a good result or did I just mess up my Amphora Virginia? So the amphora Virginia that bit me yesterday came in a pouch. When I got it 2 months ago I poured it into 2 jars (8 ounce jars) and it filled both up to near the top. No way it would have all fit into 1 jar. Yesterday afternoon I decided to dry it out some and poured both jars onto a paper plate, covered with paper towel, and let it sit out for 3-4 hours. When I poured it back into jars it only took 1 jar to hold it. Is this normal? 7D058B2B-94D0-4C61-83AF-9E875765F020.jpegWow!!

I suppose if it was quite moist to begin with the result may not be unusual. Proof is in the smoking. If it's too dry, you could gently blow through the pipe before lighting up to re-moisten the tobacco.

Tobacco is pretty versatile. If need be you could always add back some moisture to the tobacco too...

Yup, I spend a lot of time just drying out my tobaccos way ahead of time.

Like C&D Briar Fox, I now break up the cakes and rub them out to dry for a few hours before jarring it up. That way it's ready to go and I don't have to wait to smoke it.

And my Carter hall I put inside of an old glass humidor jar that the seal is failing on. Slowly dries it out overtime to my liking. Then when I refill it, I put the fresh stuff in, and bring the dry tobacco back up to the top.

There’s no right or wrong, it’s all a personal preference to how much some like to dry out.

So always experiment with the different blends you smoke, to see what works for you.

But don’t smoke overly moist tabac either, tabac should be dried to some level, unless it’s already dry from the tin/pouch.

Unlike the most often used wise words, tobacco can be dried to a point where it can't be smoked. Well, smoked pleasantly. Once had a tin that had broken seal that I wasn't aware of. It was straight Va., and it was bone dry. Try to smoke it, and it was just too harsh to smoke. Freshly dried tobacco rarely has this issue.

There is already lots of good advice. I’m sure the tobacco is not ruined. Lightly pack it into a pipe and sit down and enjoy a smoke!
