I was canning up a number of GLP, C&D and Peretti 8 ounce and 1 lb cans along with a few plugs/ropes/twists and ran across two clear mold issues. One photo is from an 8 ounce tin of Opening Night from 11/18 and the other is from a pouch of Germaine's Special Latakia Flake. I don't think there is any room for a plume/mold debate. Got the can of Opening Nights from Tobacco Pipes. One brief call and got a refund in full, no hassle, no questions asked. This might have taken a week were it from P&C.

Since I took a photo for my own purposes of this 750 gr slab of SG St James Plug I got from Synjeco, I thought I would share it. This stuff is incredibly dense.

Yikes! I have some 8 oz. tins of C&D that I keep getting more and more motivated to open and jar. Glad you got refunded on the Openijg Night.

I've got an 8 oz tin of Opening Night from that same month. I'll have to get it jarred ASAP. Thanks for the heads up!

That's some nasty mold my friend! There is alot of tobacco that comes way too moist in their containers. I opened up a box of SG flake one time and put some in a jar with a hygrometer. The humidity inside was reading over 80%!!! I don't care what anyone says about it, that is way too wet for storing long term. I always test my flake tobacco with this method now, and dry it a little if need be before jarring. YMMV

This is one of three reasons I just all 8 oz cans. I also don't trust those larger cans long term. And I'd rather open 1/2 point is down the road that hold right at 2 ounces than open 8 ounces all at once.

That sucks and makes us all cringe... but I bet if we did the math, I’m sure way less than 1% of tins are moldy upon opening.

Didnt know SJP came in a 750g.

I looked at the old email from Synjeco and saw I ordered 750 gr from them. It's possible I could have put another smaller slab away previously. It sure felt like 750 gr. I get the impression Synjeco has a close relationship with SG and thought it possible they get large slabs from SG and cut out what they need. I believe you can order a 4 kg slab of one type of plug from Estervals so it seems plausible. Regardless, I cut that slab into 5 pieces and stored in 1/2 pint jars.

Are you positive the plug has mold? It looks at least as if it could be bloom.

(Plume is a shape of bloom sometimes found in cigars, but is more random in pipe tobacco.)
It’s just a pic of the plug. Which looks yummy.
