I admit I am new to smoking a pipe, or any form of tobacco. I understand inhale, exhale and hold breath. What do you guys mean by "pipe smokers don't inhale like cigarette smokers." Every video I see of pipes shows billows of smoke coming out. Please explain what what you mean.

It's kind of like a double-inhale with cigarettes. There is a pull into the mouth, and then another pull down into the lungs.
With a pipe, just pull it into your mouth and then blow it out.

I've inhaled once or twice...man oh man did I cough! I've actually found that, these days, I flat out can't make myself inhale.

For example, I tried to smoke a Lucky Strike with a buddy. I wanted to really smoke it, like a cig should be smoked. But I couldn't. I just couldn't.

The times I've had accidental inhalations, the sensation is immediate, burning and unpleasant. It's a reminder to pay attention and do it right. I can't speak to comparisons to cig smoking, having never done it.

Into my mouth and out my mouth or nose. When an occasional unthinking puff finds it's way further south I immediately know the difference and the experience ain't especially nice. The billows you see in pipe smokers is a function of the fact that the smoke isn't being absorbed by the lungs.

I find that I accidentally inhale more when keeping the pipe in my mouth. Trying to talk or breathe will eventually bring it into the lungs. I've learned to just hold it in my hands to keep the smoke away from my face while not smoking.

I do a lot of the old so-called; "French Inhale". (All the naughty girls in school used to do it. That's how I knew which of them I wanted to take out on Friday night!)
Drawing the thick rich smoke into your mouth, you remove the pipe pushing the smoke out of your mouth slowly with your tongue while inhaling it through your nose into your lungs. Yummy!!
