It’s been ages since I’ve last had Davidoff flake medallions but remember them being pretty similar to PS Luxury Bullseye Flake but a bit richer in flavor. Should I cellar this blend for a couple years or is it pretty good to go out of the tin? It’s been so long I can’t remember myself.

Never had it myself, but I got two tins earlier this year just out of general principle. After experiencing what aging did with a batch of LBF, I decided to age the medallions as well. I would suggest aging them, but again, having no basis for comparison perhaps devalues my two cents more than any Jerome Powell policy ever could.

I’m in the same boat as Servant King. The popularity of the blend made it impossible for me to resist grabbing a few. Still haven’t gotten to one yet.
Aging it is. Already cracked the tin but have Jared them up to age for a while.
If you don't know what it tastes like, how will you know if age has improved it?
These were really enjoyable right out of the tin with a lot better flavor then even my 4 year old LBF.
Honestly, LBF sucks and people always say "age it, age it, you gotta age it like 4, 5 years". Ridiculous, literally every other VaPer I've tried fresh is better then LBF, every single one, you name it, its better. I could be dead tomorrow, I dont have time for a blend to "get good". Smoke all the LBF you like I'm not buying more of it lol.

The Perique isn't too sharp, and I'm sensitive. It's good stuff fresh, better aged. But I agree with those who say you should smoke one tin and age the other. Part of the pipe smoking journey is learning the blends and your taste. You need to try a lot of different blends to build that knowledge. Also, you can jar it up after you try it. The exposure to oxygen will only speed up the fermentation process and what happens in the jar over 1 year is about equal to perhaps 3 in the tin.
Update, I decided to have a few medallions tonight just to jog my memory. They are FANTASTIC, the Virginias are really what take center stage but the perique definitely adds a mouth feel to it and is noticeable on the retrohale. I’m going to buy a few more of these tins and let them age for a few years and I’m sure they’ll be delicious.
Really. Save your money and get Peterson Navy Roll. At least try Peterson Navy Roll before investing in Davidoff. My memories are from 2016 or 17. Not sure if Davidoff changed formula for the medallion or not, but Perique bit me quite a bit. Back when I asked around, it will take five or more years to tame that down. Now, Peterson Navy Roll has no such issue. And leaving Peterson in a jar for two to three months will turn that into sweetest dark fruit bomb.
It’s also been a while since I tried those. I remember really disliking Escudo, not because it was bad, but just because it was ridiculously overhyped.
Escudo was overrated. But Escudo that you and I smoked isn't what it was supposed to be. Change in manufacturing, and ownership made it something other than what old timers were talking about. As to newbies screaming about the greatness of Escudo, they must love Nickelback.
That makes sense. Wish I could have tasted it back in the day. I think I need another tin of Deluxe Navy Rolls. Easily been five years since I last had a tin.
Personally, I wouldn’t bother aging them. Davidoff flake medallions have a topping that significantly affects the flavor. Aging will not help with that.
