Happy holidays to all you fellow pipe smokers. I recently found a matched set in a little hard case of a straight bulldog and a straight billiard made by or for David P. Ehrlich & Co. Of Boston. According to the info on the web, Ehrlich apparently stopped selling, making and/or importing pipes in 1968. The pipes simply say "Ehrlich" on one side of the shank and that they are made of Algerian Briar on the opposite side. The stems, however, have the letters "APG" in white. Does anyone know what APG references ? The closest I came was that Michael Keedy used those letters on his pipes, but can't find anything further about him. The tobacconist said he believed an outfit in Jersey City, New Jersey used to turn Ehrlich's pipes for them, but that company is long gone. Any guesses ... Anyone ?

Thanks kcvet67. I've seen this name for years associated

with Meerschaum Pipes. I never knew that Gustave Fischer worked

for them. Gustave's Figurals are extraordinary, easily on a par

with Andreas Bauer of Vienna, many are being safely being kept

in private collections of a few serious collectors.

I'm told that they are mostly a cigar bar now...

Here's an old ad.

I didn't know they were still in business. They were one of my favorite stops whenever I'd take a day in the city. I was going there for the cigars. I was really bummed out when they closed their shop on Tremont street. They used to have tons of pipes, though. The parent company also, at the time, owned a shop in Harvard Square called Leveatt and Pierce. If you try to search for Ehrlich and can't find them, you might see if someone at L&P can help do some tracking for you.
Good luck.
