Dates From Pipe History

I realized I have several items with significant pipe dates from history on them, so I thought I'd pass them along and invite you to add others to the thread. Mine are all from the Nineteenth Century also known as the eighteen hundreds. I have a t-shirt that is emblazoned Savinelli 1876, the pipe company not the t-shirt itself. I have a trucker's cap embroidered Missouri Meerschaum The Original Corn Cob Pipes, Est. 1869. And finally, the Iwan Ries & Co. paper catalog that boasts on the cover, Tobacconists Since 1857. The earliest tobacco date I know of other than Sir Walter Raleigh himself (1552? -1618) is the Lakeland blend 1792. What other dates do you know going well back in history?

July 1, 1970 ( or there abouts). The day I smoked my first pipe.

1876 is when Achille Savinelli first opened his tobacco shop. Pipe production didn't start for another few years.

Well, that's the tantalizing question. Barling listed a "Niblick" in a 1917 catalog, and the Niblick I own and the other Niblick I recently saw on eBay are both sandblasts. We don't know if the 1917 Niblick was a sandblast. We also don't know who was doing sandblasting earlier. Dunhill took the credit and patented the process. But a number of collectors I've spoken with other the years claim that what Dunhill did amounted to theft.
1812 - The year Barling claims it was founded. Jon Gus thinks it was 1815, based on research that he did. Either way, they were around a hell of a lot earlier than the other major British marques.

In the first place I was born in Ohio, moved to Philadelphia, was raised in Tacoma, spent years in Portland, Chicago, New York and Tennessee before I wound up in New Jersey. I do not hale from the Garden State. Second, I have been here long enough to learn that there's always room in the Meadowlands for one more smartass.
