I picked up this pipe for a Father's Day gift for my son. It came late and wasn't as nice as I thought but cleaned up real well, IMHO.

Can't believe they labeled it as mint. What really caught my eye was the band.
I have a Gresham Giant with the identical stamping on the stem. Any idea what those symbols are?

Thanks, Six. He won't get to see it until tonight but I think he's going to be happy.
I've not had the time to research the stamps on the band yet. If I find anything I'll try to remember to post what I find.

Greg, if you bought the pipe on ebay, you can contact the seller with the complaint, item received not as described. Often the seller will refund part of your purchase price if you indicate you are willing to keep the item. It is worth a try, and I think the pictures show it wasn't represented accurately.
Good job on cleaning it up, I enjoyed your video.

I have 2 danish sovereign's, they are outstanding pipes. I can't see the difference between them and an actual stanwell besides maybe the grain grade.

What a great father's day gift for your son. I have a Danish Sovereign (different shape) and it is a great pipe. This one was not what was advertised, but with your good work it looks terrific I'm sure it will be a pipe that your son will cherish.

Greg, you can also enter your paypal account and look under buyer protection. They will help in settling a problem. With ebay the seller rating is a good tool, give the seller the rating he deserves. In order to protect their rating most sellers want to make a customer happy.

Pretty nice pipe nonetheless. Good Father's Day gift. Ebay is all about buyer beware.

The pipe wasn't mint, but a seller is often going to say mint when they mean acceptable.

Just an update: the seller didn't reply to any of my emails so I just left neutral (1-star) feedback with appropriate remarks. My son loves it so I couldn't return it anyway.
And that band, I just learned, is a standard nickel repair band, available from Pipe Makers Emporium and probably other places.
