I have mentioned this in another thread but I bought a 5 year old tin of Dan Tobacco Treasures of Ireland Shannon last week on Ebay. My plan is to smoke this blend on my mother's birthday this May. Let me explain though, my mother passed away 9 years ago, when I was only 12, of pancreatic cancer. I literally watched her waste away to nothing in front of me and eventually die from the terrible disease. Her name was Shannon and when I saw that Dan Tobacco had a blend with the same name I sat out to buy some. I read the description, sweet and mellow, which to me describes my mother. She was a very sweet woman who devoted her life to helping others. She decided her life goal was to help children with learning disabilities (ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, etc.) and she began to record books on tape that were not available to purchase.
My plan since then has been to smoke this blend on her birthday in a Peterson Shannon. After reading reviews of the tobacco though I noticed that most said it was a terrible blend without at least 6 months age on it. I felt disheartened but last week I noticed that a tin was listed on ebay that is supposedly 5 years old. I placed a bid and actually one. I was able to use some Ebay bucks on it so the total came out to $7 with shipping. Hell of a deal. I feel as if I was supposed to buy this blend. I received the blend today and when I looked on the back I noticed something. It is distributed out of the same town my mother was born, Nashville, Tennessee. I opened the tin today, as I wanted to make sure it wasn't too dried out, and transferred the contents to a mason jar. It is a little dry but it did make a sound when the seal was broken so I know it was sealed.
I thought I would share with you guys as this is too cool to keep to myself. Also, if anyone has a Peterson Shannon pipe that is collecting dust I would be very interested in trading some of my other pipes or something for it.
