EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9) - Bob

This morning I came up with a little concoction I named Nile Dawn (3 parts Standard Mixture to 2 parts GL Pease Cairo, see post from earlier this morning). I'm probably not the first person to do this, but I'm going to imagine that I am.

Do you have any other recipes calling for previously made blends that you tweak with some other blends? I could see this as sacrilege to some, but rules are meant to be broken. After all, we may be stubborn pipe smokers, but stubborn doesn't exclude coloring outside the lines a bit in the hobby, cue smiling Gandalf face.

I still have a few jars of PS Kentucky Dark Fire that I like to add to Danske's Mango Flake and just about any fruity aromatic that I smoke. It brings the tobacco forward, ups the nicotine, and softens the brutal sweetness.

I also add sliced and rubbed out GH&co Coconut Twist to Molto Dolce.

And, I keep a pouch of Five Brothers around to kick up other blends when the mood hits.

I also keep a few tins of blending latakia to add a pinch to some Virginias, when the mood hits. I am not the biggest latakia fan, but a tad added to a Virginia ribbon can make the smoke more interesting sometimes.

I don't dabble with blends often, but these are just some I have learned to play around with over time.

Mixing is good. Several condiment tobaccos can mix with a lot of different blends, and not just Lat and Per. Unflavored black Cavendish, cigar leaf, and dark-fired among them. The dregs of a tin added to another carefully considered blend can smoke nicely. Sometimes a pinch of something else make it a whole new day.

I love mixing 1/3rd Sam Gawith Firedance Flake with 2/3rds medium Balkan such as Balkan Supreme or Gawith & Hoggarth Balkan Mixture. I've also had good results with a pinch of G&H Kendal Black Cherry in place of Firedance.
Another good home crossover is the Shortcut To Mushrooms recipe. I sub Sutliff 515 RC1 for the original McClelland 5100, 45%, other 45% Lane 1Q or comparable vanilla aro, and around 10% blending Latakia. HGL with a healthy pinch of 515RC gets really close without bothering with a precision mix.

The only mixing I do is for is for a couple of aros that I still smoke. I find that adding a black sweetened Cavendish to almost any aromatic improves the taste and smoking qualities dramatically.

The lite English and English/American cross over blends that I smoke I Ieave alone. I've settled in on the blends that I like and I don't feel the need to mess around with them.
