I mostly work from home anyway, but our campus is now basically shut down for at least a month, which means even more time for pipe-smoking. So I'm eyeing a couple tins that I've been saving. Nothing too fancy - some 2011 Jackknife Plug and a 2005 Montgomery - but about as fancy as I get. What are you going to crack for social distancing?

I just cracked my first tin of McConnell's Scottish Flake. I've smoked two bowls of it so far, and it turns out a little different than I expected. Bolder and stronger, less sweet and more kentucky.
I also just popped a tin of FVF, and after not smoking it for 4-5 months it is just perfect. It gets so much better with age, that is the age of my palate, my ability to taste and appreciate subtleties in the blend.
A pouch of St Bruno got ripped as well, and as with FVF I haven't smoked it for a while, and I'm just getting more out of it now.
Good times and godspeed through corona.

Think I'll hold steady moderately smoking my current rotation of open tins/jars/tubs, and not splurge opening everything else. Maybe a celebratory tin if we reach bench marks against the virus. Cutting back or stopping pipe smoking for a time may be a good idea. I just want to keep things as balanced seeming as possible.

If I get through it without any lingering lung issues, as some seem to get, then for sure I’m doing something celebratory. I have a nice unsmoked meer I’ll probably break out. And likely a single malt. Maybe some Margate is the right choice for that combination.

No social distancing for us yet, only 13 people work in our Anchorage office and everyone is hyper aware of CV concerns. Our Prudhoe Bay office may be a different story, the Main Construction Camp cleared a residential wing for potential quarantines, and the planes to Prudhoe are being screened for cases. We have 23 employees there who’s lives would be seriously disrupted if they shut it down. Can’t land survey from home.

But! I may pop something special anyway! Maybe some Germain’s something or other. Maybe some older McC VAs. Not sure yet.

A have a few recently opened tins and several sample bags to work through during the lockdown, but I'm excited to get my first taste of Condor Long Cut and another taste of the vintage plug I keep put away for special occasions. Saving those for tomorrow, as smoking Irish domestic market blends on St Paddy's Day seems just as appropriate as swiggin' back Jamo or Black Bush!
