Hi, I am completely new to your site and found you whilst trying to research some pipes given to me. I really hope someone will be kind enough to help me. I am selling the pipes on ebay and have been answering questions as well as I can but I have had a question about two of the pipe ends that someone believes may be swapped around -

"Hi,

It looks like you have the stem for this pipe attached to the Dunhill pipe you're listing which has a parker stem"

Am I allowed to post my Ebay user name on here for you to take a look at the 2 in question? Many thanks in advance, Jen :)

I think I've seen what's wrong - the Dunhill Bruyere pipe I've put on has an end with a P on it, although the Parker Bruyere does too?? Is it normal to have a P marked end on a Dunhill pipe? Thanks for the reply (have to do the school run now but will be back) :)

Since Parker are/were Dunhill seconds maybe they stamped the pipe as a Dunhill and only after that ended up selling it as a Parker with a Parker stem, though I guess that's unlikely. Could also be that the stem was in bad shape and the owner had it replaced with a Parker stem instead of Dunhill.
I don't think it's a problem posting the links, so do go ahead.

Thank you Nemrod - I put the question on my listing just incase anyone hadn't noticed, I'm guessing most pipe enthusiasts will spot it a mile off though!! I have just had another question about filter size - how would I find that out, he has asked if it is 9mm on a Stanwell? Really sorry to be a numpty - It's a bit of a steep learning curve when you don't know one end of a pipe from the other, maybe I need to try one!! lol

Pipes - Admin please delete if this is not allowed - I honestly am not a trader - as you can probably tell!

That stem doesn't look like it belongs there (diameter much larger than the shank), I doubt it's original. How is the fit?
So others can see easily:

Regarding the Stanwell I'm not sure if they come with 9mm filters or not, but you can check the inside diameter of the stem/shank. If it doesn't take a filter it's usually small, only a few millimeters, but if it takes a filter it should be significantly larger. Compare it to the stems of your other pipes and it should become obvious (unless all of them takes filters). :)

I think Nemrod has it.

I don't believe that the stem is original either, for the same reasons.

And, the shank looks (to me) to be too thin to accommodate a filter.

Of course I have only one pipe that had a filter, so my experience/opinion is suspect.
I suggest you take that pipe and yourself to your local tobacconist and try a few blends, seek some advice and coaching, and begin your adventure on "The Road Less Traveled" into the world-wide brotherhood of pipe smokers.

We'll welcome you into our fraternity with open arms.

No yellow 'stache (mine is dirty-blonde by nature, no darkening vs. my beard), but I can say that a world of delights will hide in said facial hair, waiting to be released at opportune moments (pipe smoke makes your facial hair smell great).

Does anyone know what make a pipe with a J on the mouthpiece and Danish Sand 77 is?

LMAO - yeah, I would be a little more concerned if you started to sprout a 'stache than if a couple of bowls of pipe-tobacco might yellow it!
I'm taking a big guess here, but I'm going to say the pipe in question is a Johs? If you post a pic of the makers stamp or any other hallmarks, someone with more knowledge can probably give you better information.

There are several makers that use a single 'J': http://www.pipephil.eu/logos/en/lettres/le-une-lettre.html#j

Take your pick ;)
A quick search didn't turn up very much - "Danish Sand" is mentioned in a few places but none seem to mention any brand other than that, in fact on one site two of them are listed under that very name next to the other makers. :S
