I just got a cob pipe and was wondering if it's safe to reem out the pipe with a reamer and also de ghost with salt/alcohol?? Thanks

Sure, it is safe to ream it, but why would you want to try and de-ghost it? Just buy a new one. FWIW, alcohol will soak into the cob, carrying with it the ghosty stuff.

It's entirely possible that horrible reak you seek to remove is the cobs natural bouquet.

You can ream if your skilled and take care in doing it, would not recommend a Salt bath or a retort, cob does not react well to alcohol. Might consider getting a new one or get a 10 piece grab bag

I ream my cobs all the time with a cheap butner. They don't always stay quite round, but it increases the capacity once in awhile.

You can use alcohol on cotton tips and pipe cleaners in the shank, but not in the chamber. The cob is pretty absorbent and you might be building a conflagration.

I've got a couple of estate cobs and they're great! I once bought a group of used cobs, early on in my pipe smoking, and not only got one that was unsmoked, but for about $10.00, I got 2 others AND a wonderful Kiko block meer that looked 'cobbish'...That meer made my day!
