Cool picture of my wife's Great Grand Pa. I wish I knew what kind of pipe he is smoking.

The chances are good it's a Pete. #106 or 107
There's just enough of the button visible to show a smidge of P-lip-ness (say mine eyeballs).
The ever-so-slight "scoop" profile from the 30-degree oblique angle also looks very Peterson-y.

By the looks of that wide metal band, the billiard shape and the obvious age of great grandpa, I would guess that is a Dr. Grabow, perhaps a Golden Duke or a Viscount. But I'm no Dr. Grabow expert. Any idea when the photo was taken might help date it better. Great pic!

Dr, Grabow Starfire pipes also had that wide band like that.

And as for the pipe, it does look kind of P-lippy to me, as well.

Smashing photograph. But I don't see the P-Lip. I mean I want to see it when George says he sees it (and who I am to disagree with the likes of George's calibrated eyeballs?). I confess I can't see a definitive fishtail, though. But a moving, thoughtful photo for sure ::

The picture was taken in the late 70s Mr. Little berry Hines ran a little country store at the end of our road. The picture was taken form a book. The author was driving through, and stopped took the picture and wrote a article about Mr. Hines. If I can find it I will post the article.
