Contemplation in a world of smoke.

Obviously, as everyone must know, pipe smoking causes you to think deeply and evaluate things to yourself wich may not be so apparent otherwise. When i smoke, i think about nature and the creation and life of it, that's why i always smoke outside. What do you all contemplate during your smoking time?

I usually reflect on the day, and try to get my thoughts in order for the days ahead.

I think about opera mostly. Just kidding. However Redfox, I'd love to talk opera with ya. I.E. check your private messages.
Honestly, something I think about often is why smoking is the only time life moves slow enough to actually think, to mull, to contemplate. The world seems to move so fast and so violently around me. I wish there were more quiet, thoughtful moments in my days. Sometimes I feel as though I was born in the wrong era.

Right now, I sit on my back porch and read out of "Deification in Christ: Orthodox Perspectives on the Human Person" and try to fathom the mysteries of the human person.

Mostly I like to think about the smoke itself; but the mysteries and paradoxes of physics are also delightful to contemplate.

I guess it goes with the territory when you're retired, but I spend some smoking time examining my life and career in retrospect.

I think about nothing and everything . The grain of the pipe and the taste of the tobacco . And most of all what is my Jack Russell is thinking .

Meditate on life itself while lounging back and looking up at the sky. I now want to go to the local observatory to look much deeper into space.

I find it a source of continual surprise and wonder; the wide and varied interests, perspectives, and introspective thoughts of pipe smokers from around the world.

And the fact that we can all come together share that infinite variety with respect and genuine curiosity.

To think...the only thing we have in common is our mutual "love of the Halflings' leaf".

My thoughts wander all over the place, from the spiritual to nature to that next marketing brainstorm that would have never come during work-time while the brain is going a mile a minute.

@ mainyachtie, love to talk some opera with you!!! Glad to see i'm not the only one who loves it! I guess it's a bit too beautiful for all of these MANLY MEN. lol. Loved everyones replies, good to know that everyone has a chance to slow down if only for 20 minutes. If only life could be as easy as a bowl of good tobacco.

I think a lot about the day and what I would have different, I also think about the next day. I tend to try and plan out the next day in my head while I smoke, even though I know I probably wont follow the plan... Sometime, on rare occasions, I like to just listen to nature and imagine myself out in the woods, away from the rest of the world.

Just a few minutes ago I was enjoying a bowl of Fox & Hound and contemplating my dismal showing at the skeet range this morning.

I have determined that my dog doesnt care so I wont either!

I find it my only time of day to think of absolutely nothing at all. Just sit on the swing on my back porch and relax.

Yesterday I was thinking about pipe smoking itself, its history and how long it has been around. Felt good to be part of something historical, yet in my opinion modern. I think I'll do some research today about the history of pipe smoking.
