Has the quality of the virginias used in St Bruno and Condor decreased over the last year? I have pouches bought in 2018 and compared to some I had left from 2017 it is inferior (the taste in both is like cheap cigarettes).

So far I can't say much about good ole'Condor but do have an opinion on St Bruno's, which is among my daily rotation, The ReadyRubbed and flake by Mc barens seem to be of much higher quality in comparison to the imperial tobacco version currently sold in Spain.

Hopefully, the quality of Mc Barens version remains so in the coming days as well.

Then I was reading somewhere that just recently the Condor production was switched to Poland.

Its true. The Condor from Poland just tastes 'yuck' whilst the Plug seems OK but just a little on the moist side and the room note seems strangely different. I have mentioned this to my dear friend Dave (Weezell) in passing when we last spoke. I have taken to mixing my Plug with Warrior Plug or any half decent Irish twist, either black or brown in an effort to pep the smoking experience up a little. Its a very sad state of affairs!

I'm a regular St Bruno man, and I must admit it tastes to me much the same as it always did. Maybe it's because I smoke it all the time and so don't notice small changes, or maybe it's because the UK stuff (which I smoke) is different from the SB sold in the US. Or just maybe it's because I don't have the palate to spot the little differences - I am no JimInks!

After Simon had posted his previous thread about Condor, I tore into one of my more recently acquired plugs to check for myself. I am not sure that I would call it yuck, but it definitely doesn't have as much of that... je ne sai pas, suntan lotion flavor? It's not as much that it tastes different to me, as it just tastes... less. It also doesn't seem to have the strength it used to. It doesn't taste like cigarettes to me, at least it doesn't taste like any cigarette that I've ever had.
I wish I had Warrior to mix it with. Well, if I had Warrior, I would probably just smoke that instead.
Was/is Condor a Virginia? I had thought it was more a conglomeration of dark burleys and maybe empirical Virginias.

The RR Condor is like sucking a fart out of a Swan. The Condor Flake is fire proof and the Plug seems to respond well to being mixed with Irish twist although adding 1/3 of Tambo would probably really rev it up but I cannot find a reliable source for Tambo these days.

I personally love Condor RR. I see no difference in the quality. Don’t much like the flake, never had the pleasure of the plug.

I mentioned this on another forum i occasionally partake in.
I was an avid condor smoker for 6 years, but the last year or two co for has steadily gone down hill, to the point now I have waved it good bye and won't smoke it no more, given the UK's prices, life is too short for poor expensive baccy.
on the other hand I feel st bruno has gone up in quality since mac baren took it over, i do say though that the flavours aren't as intense but under imperial charge the quality went massively down hill, and I fear if mac baren hadn't took it over then it would of quietly faded away.
p.s condor is made in Poland as I emailed condors manufacturers and they confirmed that fact, such a shame an icon is now a shadow of its former self.

This is a friggen disaster....Have just a few pouch fulls (18 flakes) of Condor Long Cut from 2017 and half of a plug. I guess I'll be smoking it for special occasions.

[on the other hand,I feel St Bruno has in quality since Mc Baren took it over,I do say though the flavors aren't as intense but under Imperial T charge the quality went massively down hill'] Yes,In my opinion, there's quite a significant difference with Mc Barens St Brunos and with that one of Imperial tobacco sold in Spain ,and this same goes for Amphora brand.

amphora is one of my favourite blends, i never tried the original but I tried it when it was under imperial tobacco ownership and I have to say mac baren did a sterling job creating it's version.

Speaking of St Bruno - I will be in Prague next week, and they have St. Bruno over there. I can't seem to find it on tobaccoreviews.com, I am guessing that they have the ready rubbed and the flake by Mac Barren, which is one and the same blend, except that the tobacco is packed differently?

Madox07: Pretty much so,although between the flake and RR some subtle differences are present,as for the tobaccoreviews.com,all these Brunos are under the Mc Barens. So Try to browsing under the Mc Baren Brand name. Best Greets, Paul

So is St. Bruno considered a lakeland, just like condor, due to the casing? Or is it a aromatic hybrid Virginia like some consider royal yacht for example? Actually if I think of it ... I am not sure whether you consider a lakeland by casing considerations alone, or by geographical region, i.e. UK Lakeland/Kendal region.
