I'm not an Oom-Paul pipe shape fan, but I couldn't resist this one. After finishing and photographing the pipe, forum member Pipe Monk PM'd me thru Facebook with a pipe question. Thru conversation, I showed him this piece and he wanted it, so it will soon be making it's way to India - what small but world-wide community!
I love Tradition grade pipes and this Shape 17 seems to be pretty rare. The C-stem logo was in excellent shape, as is the rest of the stem. I packed it up fast so I wouldn't have an opportunity to change my mind!
Details below. Enjoy it Sunny!

Beautiful pipe. I've had one since the early 60's and it still smokes like a dream. Love that old brit wood.

Thanks Al,
Surprisingly 3 out of 4 Comoy's I have acquired this year have been because of you. The Blue Riband, The Tradition Bulldog I showed you before bidding on it and now directly from you. It is a lovely comfortable shape and a wonderful piece of history. I will let you know how it smokes in a couple of months :P
Cheers,

Chris aka Sunny :puffpipe:

Question (and possibly a dumb one): Is the pipe old enough that the "C" is ivory?
I raise the issue just for you to think about, as any trade in ivory -- even this tiny little piece of it, silly as that seems -- can cause real trouble for you, especially if it's crossing a border.

I've never heard of a Comoys C being ivory, they were always drilled rod stock. This one was made in the 1950's at the earliest. I've shipped a number of these era pipe overseas, with no issues.

Gotcha. Just sending up a flare just in case.
For some reason had in my head that the C was ivory.

I shied away from Oom-Pauls but my wife gave me one for Christmas and it is a great deep narrow pipe for burley. My Sav Hercules has a big deep bowl but isn't heavy, no filter.

MSO, didn't you hear? The Oom Paul shape, particularly the Comoy's Extraordinaire 235 model are the talk of the town and indeed, the pipe to be seen with :D
Regards,
Jay.

I just acquired one of these, but on the shank to the left of the Comoy name, there is a large "R" stamped.
Does anyone have an idea about this?

Quiet:
Just thinking out loud:
Reject, perhaps? Or maybe one of the Roseberry Extras the guys were talking about a while back?

If you can please add a pix or two. It always helps.

fnord, you are reight - it is a Comoy Reject.
If Cadogan pipes are stamped with a letter on the underside of the stem it is a production code.

I just have here a Civic de Luxe and a BBB Two Star both stamped with J.
