I have watched Comoy's Christmas pipes for a few years and even restored a couple. Every one that has been posted on Ebay has had the stamped "C" stem logo. Even on the few sets that show up, all have stamped logos. This is the case even on pipes that were made prior to the merger (which truthfully aren't seen that often from that era).
But recently, someone listed this 1976 pipe which has a drilled 3 piece stem logo:

Does anyone have a copy of Hackers "The Christmas Pipe" that might explain this?

Could someone please tell me how "three piece C" came about- ie. what does it mean, how to recognize.
The C stem logo is created in steps

1. Drill and insert a white rod.

2. Drill the center of that white rod and insert a smaller black rod (effectively created an "O")

3. Drill a 3rd time, inserting a tiny black rod at the 3 o'clock position on the "O", making it an "C"

That's sneak peak for my next post. Guess I'm pretty predictable, eh?

Sometimes its tricky to discern in an Ebay photo, most sellers don't take close-ups.
For the pipe above, this is what the sellers photo showed. On this piece, a 3 pc logo was pretty much a sure bet and I could just see enough detail.

Well, yes in that they were only used on Comoy's of an earlier era (prior to 1981). In '81, Comoy's was merged back with Cadogan (and GBD) and the quality of both brands dropped significantly. Comoy's went to a stamped logo, as did GBD, dropping their brass rondell (and the COM marks also changed). Collectors/smokers value the older pipes for either brand.
