I got this Comoy's 409 Bulldog 1983 Christmas Pipe in an Antique store today over in Roswell. I got it for next to nothing. I'm not sure store owner knew as much about pipes as he wanted me to believe. Anyway it cleaned up great and I'm ready to give her a trial run.
BTW this is my first Comoy's !

Wow, good score!

Looks to be in mint condition.
Were you in Roswell Ga.?

I grew up in Clarkston, right by Decatur, and I'd often ride out to the Roswell area to go to the junk shops and antique malls, a great area for finding treasures.
btw

I was looking thru your posts, and you are a lucky man indeed!

What really grabbed my eye was on an estate sale score you made,

which had a Stanwell Golden Contrast 63,

...do you still have that pipe?

If you'd be willing to sell/trade, shoot me a pm
The Golden Contrast was a short-lived series, because it was so difficult and time-consuming to produce, it was made when Tom Eltang was still working for Stanwell and he oversaw the production of these pipes, it was his staining technique that they were using, I've read in a couple of places that Eltang actually finished the pipes himself.
Anyway, just thought I'd ask, I love the 63 shape but have never found a GC.

The one in your pic looks beautiful.

They often have vulcanite stems, and they also havr the cool inlay S-crown.

I have the same pipe!
Be sure to clean the shank with lots of Q-tips and alcohol, mine had a lot of gunk trapped in that area. Once everything was cleaned, it is a great pipe. Enjoy in good health.

Thanks guys .
@ misterlowercase. Thank you sir . No I was in Roswell , New Mexico not Georgia . I appreciate the comments on my pipe but as far as the Stanwell Golden Contrast goes I don't want to get rid of it , I have about 10 Stanwells and the GC is one of my favorites . It is an excellent smoker as well, but thanks for the offer.
@ Kashmir and plateauguy I will make sure and clean the shank extra carefully . Thanks for the heads up ! :puffpipe:

That was my first Comoy, too. Now I have others that I like more. The drilling in this one isn't perfect. Cleaners tend to get hung up at the bend and again at the mortise. It's a nice pipe and it smokes well, but I prefer my older straight Comoys these days.
I will say that the 409 is a nicely cut pipe. The Christmas pipes that came after it tend to look really out of balance to me.

Very nice. I have heard that the Comoy's from post Cadogan era are not any good, but I disagree. I have one and it is a great smoker with very nice grain.
