Comoy’s 216 Grand Slam Patent Extraordinaire

I wish this had been in better shape but was hard to tell when I bid on it. Nomenclature is almost gone. Just wondering if a grand slam extraordinaire was very common.

No, not too common. It's one of my favorite shapes.

I believe the 'Extraordinaire' moniker was given to their larger pipes that also had excellent grain.
I have a 235 Extraordinaire Oom Paul but it isn't stamped Grand Slam.
Interesting that yours has a US Patent stamp, never seen that on a Comoy's pipe.

Yes, a fine looking classic- and it may not have been buffed to hell and back; some nomenclatures were lightly stamped, and I bet in some cases the briar "sprang" back somewhat, over time.

Only pipes destined for the US market needed that stamp, as it referred to the intellectual protection of the grand slam apparatus provided by a USA issued patent. In the UK the apparatus was protected by a nationally issued patent with a different number.

Further, I have seen grand slam pipes stamped BRITISH PATENT 40574. These pipes were apparently destined for UK or empire markets.
