I'm guessing that this is primarily used for marketing and advertising? Pretty interesting, though!

I appreciate it it too.
My younger nephews feel I'm too old fashioned about my privacy. They have grown up using Facebook and other social media, Google, and others and seem all to ready to surrender their personal information to any company.
There is only one ad network company here, Quantcast.

Two years ago they got spanked for using a program that restored deleted cookies. They got fined and fixed the problem. Here is their corporate spin.

Still, I don't trust any of them.
On the otherhand, I am not trying to make my living from a web business and would likely have a different view if it was affecting my livlihood.

From a marketer's standpoint, the internet isn't a private place. It is public domain. That being said it is important not to cross ethical lines. A browser that you choose to use seems to me not to be crossing the lines, though. I don't like it myself, but don't know if it's unethical. As a marketer I would never want to work for a company who did such monitoring because it doesn't quite sit right with me.
