So I've noticed that when I smoke my pipes outside in the bleak midwinter (yes it's not even winter yet but whatever) they tend to not last as long as in the warmer months. I haven't noticed any more issues with tongue burn than usual yet lately I've found that pipes that usually last 30 to 40 minutes trend about 10-15 minutes less. I don't think I'm puffing any more than I usually do and nothing seems hotter than normal, is it all in my head or am I perhaps puffing with a quicker cadence so I can go back inside to the warmth? Or has anyone else noticed something similar?

I await your answers and ridicules, have a great day y'all.

I just got back from a walk in the 20s F with snow cover, and know that I tend to kick up my puffing without knowing it, so I make a little more conscious effort and find my rhythm for the winter. I also only smoke walking downhill or I look like a train engine. You should probably put the flip flops away and toss on a hat. You also have an excuse to buy an outdoor heater now to save money on pipe tobacco.

I was thinking about getting a propane heater for my garage so I can smoke in there while I'm saving up my pennies for an air filter system for my basement so I can just smoke down there. I like your idea, spend money to save it.

Outdoor winter puffing is a bit of a drag. It's been very snowy here lately, and the wind chill can get to be a bit too much. I don't last a whole bowl under those conditions. I do puff a little faster because the cold (much colder) air seems to cool off my pipe a lot. I experience the need for more relights.

So I retreat to my car. I'd like to carve out a corner of the garage and make a little place for myself.

Yeah that makes sense cause I definitely also thought the air temp helps keep the bowl nice and cool. Maybe I just need to use my fire pit more. Certainly cheaper than a propane heater, save getting one of those I was just thinking of lighting my grill and standing by it on full blast 🤣

My morning pipes are fairly normal in this weather but Im bundled up for it and sipping coffee on the porch or deck. The garage smokes during extreme cold or high wind I tend to smoke a little faster as I generally step in the garage for a quick bowl and then back indoors. That last pipe before bed though 😂I zip through with a quickness.
Weather plays a part for me at least.
