It's been colder and rainy here this past week, hindering my ability to finish my latest pipe rack, but it's all okay. I have a nice cup of hot coffee, some Gaslight in my meer and things are feeling alright this morning. Later today, I'm heading to the Alamo Draft house for the new Fantastic Beasts 2 film and cannot wait! :D Happy Smoking! :puffy:

I woke up to a blanket of snow on the vehicles and grass. I'm really surprised we didn't close the state. I didn't even hear the air horns going off as we were invaded by this. Someone is slacking on their job.

But, it is some Vanilla Flake and a cup of coffee here to drive away the shivers.

I hope you have a great day. Stay warm.

Freeze here, my new puppy Buddy, ate his chow on the porch but jumped up on French doors to get back in, he’s in his kennel inside snoozing, I made coffee, looking at news, not to much though depressing as it is, hoping to get in Holiday spirt.

It's the first significant snowfall of the season in Chicago, too. But only an inch, or so.

ODF, coffee, and some Christmas music on the radio makes it all fine. :puffy:

, I'm pretty sure the Governor declares a state of emergency any time the temps get below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
There are reasons for that. I have had Northern friends of mine come down and and tell me down their noses how great of a driver they are by how well they can maneuver in the "snow," and I laugh my ass off when one of the Southern Yahoos bashes into them. You guys may be able to drive on "snow" better than us, and maybe even better drivers on a sheet of ice, but you are sharing the road with people who have no clue, nor common sense in driving on a sheet of ice.
That, and besides, we all cheer with delight when the state is closed. I wish they would do it more often. I cherish getting a free day to smoke and huddle with my family against the cold. Why would that be a bad thing at all?

32° and freezing rain here. Driveway and deck look like mirrows. The trees and bushes are encased in ice as are the power lines.

Sunny, dry, and 44 here.
But I'm at work so it's just coffee and no smoke. At least today I've got start at my regular time and at my own desk for once.

Yep! Love the cold temperatures, probably my favorite time of the year! Gaslight seems like a good fit. It's rich and dark and filling, like a nice porter or stout, so it goes great with the cold, blustery, rainy days like today. Yeah, the beard needed a good trim. Going to Thanksgiving with a baby face for my mom. She never liked hair on my face, but immediately after...the growing begins!
Hmm I have some Gaslight in a jar all ready to go. Do I have to wait for the temps to drop before I enjoy it? Its still just 0○c here.
Nope, you're good. We're sitting at about 43, feels like 37 and I'm enjoying mine, so feel free! If you're colder than I am, by all means, enjoy your Gaslight! Hell, I was enjoying it when it was in the 70's, so it must be okay for any and all temperatures. Except once it gets above 80, I'm looking for something with a little less depth like some CH maybe.

Ain't you s'posed to be smoking Ashton's Rainy Day on days like these? :p
A warm front passing us by. It's currently 0° C outside, and rainy too.

Wow, Bammy got some snow? We haven't had any real snow yet up here in Wyoming. It was 50 today and I even saw a guy mowing his yard. It feels a bit like the apocalypse.

22F and snowing here in Northern Michigan. We have about 5" of snow on the ground. Feels like 18 outside, so not too cold.

Carolina Church, that's one big pipe-group 6?
You know, the groupings always confused me, really, so I'm not entirely sure. The bowl is about 7/8" diameter to about 1-1/2" deep, so if I had to guess, maybe a group 4 or 5? I wouldn't think it big enough for a 6. It holds more than enough tobacco to have a good hour smoke on average. Depends on the tobacco, though really. SWA burns through it pretty quickly, but Gaslight can burn forever, which I love when sitting at home relaxing.

Not a 6, maybe a 5, probably a 4. You're not the only one who's confused. You would think grown men looking at a hole in a piece of wood could speak accurately. You could say 4 is average, but the chambers of artisan pipes have grown smaller, on average. But to continue, 5 is above average and 6 way above, Saying how long it takes to smoke that bowl is ok but you did't say how fast you smoke.
Then, to make matters even more confusing, some guys will say this chamber is the size of a Dunhill group X, but Dunhill chamber sizes changed according to shape.

I can look at any pipe and tell whether it is 3/4th of an inch or maybe .85", or .90". Why do people insist on using that stupid Dunhill group scale that has been said time and time again to be the size of the briar before it was cut, and little to do with the hole size?

Using Dunhill groupings is just stupid, and maybe only six people on the entire forum, would know what the hell you were talking about.

Moderate temps, and smokey here. Not the good kind of smoke, either.
It'd be easy enough to measure the volume of a chamber, but I've never read of anyone doing that.
