I saw a short TV feature on this. The dad's specialty in the coal mine is bolting the ceiling supports in the tunnels. He came unshowered and in his work clothes because he left work late and didn't want to disappoint his kid. I think the Kentucky coach spotted them and gave them a special shout-out. I think all those stripes on his work clothes are safety colors so he could be spotted in the dark if the lights went out and people were looking with only head lamps.
The most hazardous occupations statistically are mining, fishing, and farming.
I hope this youngster get's a framed copy of this photo when he's old enough to understand its importance.
