Cloves

Recently my gal told me her daughter gave her some cigarettes that had cloves in the tobacco. She wondered if I would like to try one. I took a couple puffs. Now I think cigarettes are the turnip of the tobacco world. I don't like cigarettes, I find them exceedingly bland; but this cigarette, well it was a ton better than the last one she had me try. I would not rank it anywhere near even my least favorite pipe tobacco but it was well, okay...kinda. So I ground up some cloves for my pipe tobacco, adding just a little, ya don't want more than a little. This tobacco with cloves, anyone else ever have that?

I love tobacco with clove as a topping/casing and it really does hark back to older times when clove cigarettes and tobacco was highly desirable.

I think cloves add a bit of flavor and "perk". I made some clove infused tobacco from a bit I had that was kinda bland.

No crackling sound in the one I had but it probably just had a bit of tiny particles of cloves.

I used to smoke djarum blacks in college. When I got into pipes I had a buddy who tried mixing clove with prince Albert. Came out pretty bad he used to much clove tasted like the clove oil you put on a toothache. The djarum clove cigars are not the same as the djarum of old sadly.

I liked the clove cigarettes in college. That is, until I drank too much and had one too may clove cigarettes at the same time.... couldn't stand the smell of them ever after.

So do you just mix ground cloves in the tobacco?

I get ground clove from the condiment section of the grocery store and sprinkle a small amount on the tobacco until I get the desired taste. I don't want a strong clove taste, just enough to know it's there. Most tobaccos use food quality ingredients in their blends, and this is food grade. It makes for a nice change of pace.

I have always enjoyed Djarum Select and Black cigs. It sounds intriguing to try some in tobacco. I may even have some bosun cut plug kicking around the cellar. I will have to look around.
