I don,t know wether to clean my cob or buy a new one. I have smoked a lot of a tobacco that I don,t care fore and every time I try a different brand about a half bowl it starts to taste like the other. Should I buy a new MM cob or clean it with some thing. If so what! Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't recommend trying to clean a cob. I would smoke out the ghost with a good burley. Or even something like Carter Hall.
Since they are cheap, and absorb ghosts, you may want to have one cob for each style of blend.

Thanks Perique. I just thought I would ask since they are relatively cheap. I might try carter hall just for the fun of it.

Take a pipe cleaner with high proof alcohol on it and rub it around the inside of the bowl, it will greatly reduce your issue, then smoke it out like they said.

Roth is dead on. Just to clarify, by "clean", I meant with liquids. Not advised.
By all means use pipe cleaners, paper towels, etc. you may even have to lightly ream after a year or so.

I love my MM Missouri Pride Corn Cob. I generally clean the stem and shank with pipe cleaners, and every once in a while I also "ream" the bowl with a paper towel.

I always get rid of the excess moisture before using a pipe cleaner soaked in alcohol, a little will really help this issue, although I'm sure a lot will probably cause the outside of the cob to turn black. I've heard of it happening to people who have done entire salt and alcohol cleanings on a cob, ouch!

Thanks guys. You have really helped me out. The alcohol and pipe cleaner worked well after using a paper towel to ream the bowl. Never thought of that!

I've 'reamed' my cobs successfully, using an inexpensive "butner" tool. I don't think using the salt treatment is a good idea for cobs...but, I don't recall the salt actually 'swelling' to put pressure on the chamber, so, you could try it.

Cleaning the shank with alcohol soaked cotton swabs and pipe cleaners will help.

Try to remove most of the cake with a reamer and smoke out any remaining ghosts, after cleaning the shank and stem really good.

Have you tried sunbathing it? A day out in warm summer sunshine does wonders for a ghosted or stinky cob.

Yes aldecaker is right, let it out in the sun for a few hours. But I would smoke some Carter Hall in it for a few bowls first to neutralize the taste.
