This is the brush I got from an art supply store years ago. You can see its original use was to coat the bristles with paint, rotate the bristles against the protruding metal shaft to splatter the paint. Great for creating starry sky effects. Now I just use it to clean my pipe after smoking.

Thanks for the pic. Really good idea. Question: is this effective once the cake is kind of hard ie in lieu of a reaming tool or do you use it each time you use a pipe?

I would think there is some cleaning effect; it's hard to tell because the accumulation of cake is so gradual.

At Harbor Freight Tools they have a set of tiny brushes on a ring (meant for cleaning airbrushes) that look perfect for scrubbing out the mortise and draft hole of a stummel.

3/4" bottle brush, with an added offset bend in the shaft to facilitate auguring around in the bowl. Works like a charm.
Beware of cheap bottle brushes that do not have bristles on the end!

woodsroad, you must've caused a mad rush for the Amazon brushes. They now show as "Temporarily out of stock".
