I still categorize myself as a beginner pipe smoker. I've been smoking cigars here and there but never really was a smoker or a nicotine junkie. I've always found that vapes were giving me really deep/sweet aromas with their chemicals well combined. And when I found something that gave something authentic I stick with it. Well fortunately all the electric smoke is gone and in early 2025 started to get myself around pipes.

My title still has nothing to do what I'm about to say but I just had a train of thoughts.

I remember my first tongue bites/ashtray taste, and the muscle memory to inhale smoke. And never really had a good chance to enjoy the smoke. The tin notes were awesome and I knew, if 5-600+ people review a tobacco with 4/5 stars I must be the problem.
Slowly familiarizing myself with retrohale/slow smoking started to shine and I was able to taste. Mac Barren vanilla/CB regular/Royal on my first months all tasted the same.

After my tongue was pretty much familiar with the smoke and I "recovered" from endless tongue burns I started to enjoy even more.

My pipe cleaning routine was simple, used a simple pipe cleaner and went through 2-3 times and left the pipe for a good 24 hours to "dry"?! "rest"?!.. I heard about pipe cleaning liquids but never really wanted to use them simply because I felt like it will leave a "medical center" smell in my pipes. (Old bad memories about the "clean" smell of those places).

I recently cleaned all my pipes with wiskey and let them dry for a good 72 hours. The amount of black gunk and stuff it came out was really a clean sign that, should have been practicing this a bit more often.

Long story short 3 of my pipes were cleaned and properly dried out, and went for a smoke with much enthusiasm about taste/aroma, and let me tell you something, even a CB white had so much vanilla (compared to my first months experience) that I now feel that I found myself.

The golden rule for me still the same, the cooler i smoke the more flavor I get, also the lighter I pack.

But I'm just in a positive shock how much a proper clean pipe can give.

Happy New Year!
