Are clay pipes subject to being broken very easily?

Great smokers, but they will break if not careful...I had a nice Dutch Gouda clay that lasted well over a year

before I had dropped it ;-) and for only a $10 purchase, I have many more now in-stock just in case :puffy:

Ya, they seem fragile to me. Way lighter than my briar pipe, similar weight to a MM pipe. I found my from an antique shop...did a fire cleaning and ready to go!

My only clay. Very neutral tasting, hence I don't smoke it as much as briar.

Love the pics! Is that the normal way a clay colors after you smoke it awhile?

That is a double walled clay bowl, and the interior of the facing side was coated somehow to reveal a picture

as the bowl colors. From what I can tell it's a pastoral scene with three maidens approaching a pond while

carrying baskets. It's still developing, but I think it will be blurry even after it colors-in. Here's a close-up.

I bought this pipe around 1966 or 67. The only marking is on the shank: Manhattan. If anyone knows who made

it I'd like to know.
