If churchwardens smoke "cooler", then nosewarmers should smoke "hotter".
They don't. A few inches of stem either way will not noticeably affect the temperature of the actual smoke.

I've also read that a warden works like a Peterson, removing more tar...?

I do notice something different when smoking a churchwarden. If a churchwarden doesn't change the smoke, then somehow could the stem length change the way that the smoker normally smokes?

I believe the theory is; smoked under normal and similiar conditions (not puffing like a frieght train), a churchwarden will smoke a bit cooler because the smoke travels a further distance, thus providing more cooling time, before it gets to the mouth. I find I can delicately and carefully smoke some VA's in my Churchwardens but I cannot in my regular pipes.

Just thinking about it, your pulling a vacuum on a greater area which should make it burn hotter.

Now the smoke has a longer travel so it should cool down.

I don't see a difference.

If there was it would be more economical to smoke shorter pipes.

I think the only way tar would be changed it there were a filter involved.
