Hello everyone,
I have a Chacom churchwarden pipe which I like a lot and which smokes well, but I do find the bowl rather large and that the stem is too thick, all of which gives it a rather hefty feel and appearance.
I forget the exact name but I believe it is similar to the Paris No. 42 except that it lacks the collar at the end of the stem.
I am now looking for a good quality churchwarden with a much more slender and thin stem and slightly smaller bowl. I saw a Chacom one two years ago but, stupidly, didn't buy it and now that I check online the model is gone.
But it need not be a Chacom of course. I'm open to anything. But since I don't know too much about what's out there I thought I'd ask for help.
Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions,
Best regards from the Netherlands

Philip

I have a Vauen churchwarden that I really love:

It came with two stems so one can go "short" if desired.
I also just saw some Ropp pipes on SPC that might really fit your bill!

Big Ben makes good churchwardens in the Lectura series. Another favorite of mine is the Savenelli 601 pictured in my avatar at left. For small churchwarden's I recommend EWA's carried by Iwan Ries (a Forums sponsor) which are Group 2, quite small, but provide a normal length smoke with many flake/coin/plug/rope tobaccos. EWA's are very reasonably priced but are made very well, respectable French pipes.

If you can find a Stanwell Hans Christian Anderson Churchwarden, it should fit the bill. Mostly acryllic stem, smaller bowl and shank. Light weight, and a pretty clean smoke.

You realy cant go wrong with the Savinelli as Embers mentioned, good smoker, but I do like the Stanwell Hans Christian Andersen, the forward cant of the pipe appeals to me. Tough decision for you but they are both good selections

Thank you very much for the useful and very helpful suggestions. I wasn't aware of some of these brands and enjoyed looking at their offerings.
Sizes and proportions are difficult to tell from photos, of course, but it seems the models mentioned all have stems of similar thickness as my Chacom, which basically is a normal short stem that has been drawn out to length. I'm looking for something even more slender.
Are there any brands/models with thinner stems?
Best

Ironically I like to recommend Savinelli and Big Ben because they have thicker acrylic stems (and a slightly more open draft as a result).
I'm actually surprised to see Chacom using a larger stem.

From what I can tell the vast majority of Churchwardens come with the same style of pre-formed vulcanite stem, Vauen, Nording, the Wizard Cobwarden, and the half dozen Czech made BPK Churchwardens that I bought all have basically the same stem, just with varying degrees of polish.

I've never owned one but it looks like Peterson uses the smaller stems as well.

Looking at pipemaker supply shops I've only ever seen one variety of Churchwarden stem sold, so I'm betting that most of them come from the same source.

This is my small Chacom Star 518:
cm. 18 long, cm. 3,6 tall, cm. 2,9 wide. Chamber: cm. 3,4 deep, cm. 1,7 wide. Weight: gr. 25.
The chamber is broad enough to smoke like a medium size pipe.

Except for Vauen's Auenland line. Birch with acrylic mouth pieces.

Here's that Iwan Ries pipe. Still, looks no smaller than others mentioned. Perhaps stems that long would be too fragile to be any thinner?
