looking to buy 1st churchwarden I read Peterson is 1 of the best, any suggestions

Savinelli makes some really nice ones, but P&C has a couple of Big Ben churchwardens for under $50.

If you want a churchwarden for the cool smoke only, get a meerschaum churchwarden. They have some nice ones on pipesandcigars.com. I only have one Peterson churchwarden, but the bowl is a bit small for me, so it gets pretty hot. They make some of the most beautiful pipes though. Honestly though, it's hard to go wrong if it's on P&C at least in my experience. Just go with the one that looks best in your price range. My favorite churchwarden is my Butz-Choquin Jr Calabash. Beautiful and a cool smoke.

The Savenelli churchwarden in my avatar is a 601, full arched (which is the classic version), non-filter. Really nice open draw , light enough but with an ample bowl. I would also expect the Big Ben pipe to be well engineered and it is certainly a good buy.
