Chirstmas of course is my favorite time of year.Since my parents passed away some years ago it isn't quite the same though. They really got into Christmas giving and made it special for every one around them.I especially miss them during the holidays.I wish that my father had bought me a pipe so that I could smoke it each Christmas eve in his honor. He was a confirmed non smoker though and couldn't bring himself to do so.If you sill have your parents make them know how much you appreciate and love them. You will always be glad you did.

I know what You mean, both of mine are gone as well. All the things never to have with them again.

Christmas WAS my favorite time of year, now for the same reasons you said I hope these days will pass quickly.Only my sons and my wife help me to keep a little the Christmas soul.I smell but my heart not

Christmas time is important to me, too. Lost my Dad in 2009 unexpectedly.
Christmas time is always a time of extremes for me for some reason. I have the best of times and the worst of times (no quote intended).

I love what Christmas is supposed to mean, but HATE what it has become. I work in retail, and it's the worst time of the year to be in this line of work (I've been having to listen to Christmas music since the day after Halloween). I can never get time off to be with family since they won't allow any vacation time. For the last 5 years since working at Walmart, Christmas has become just another day here. I'll be so glad when January 2nd gets here, and it's all over with. Sorry for the rant, but I just had to vent.

baskerville... you and your family have been in my thoughts the last few days.. You have certainly had a rough year... but remember the good times and all that you shared!!
Best wishes for 2012!

You can only hear so many Christmas songs with the lyrics bastardized into commercial jingles before you want to throw something.
I've worked 3 Christmas's in retail before, and they're always a difficult time.

But you have to love Christmas for what it is . A time of joy and peace where everyone is on his or hers best behavier .If only for one day . It is the best of memories that we can store up , with everyone we love there . It is tradition steeped through time into a magical display of lights in the heavans above us . And the lights each represents a soul and we learn , we are not alone .

My Christmas is me, the wife and the dog. We sometimes put up a tree, sometimes not, but we always exchange presents. I used to send other people presents until it became obvious they didn't really give enough of a shit to send one back. Now my wife and I exchange good gifts for each other, go out to a fine dining restaurant and call it done. I enjoyed Christmas much more in Germany where there is more atmosphere and less crass commercialism.
