I personally keep a minimum amount of cake in my pipes because I don't want the cake of another tobacco affecting the flavor of the one I am smoking now. I just keep enough in it to cover the wood in the pipe. I've seen pipes with cake so heavy that there was barely room for a lead pencil to go inside them.
