David McCarter is a young pipe maker out of Portland, Maine. I saw his work last year and thought it was strong, but in the last year he's really improved. He told me that in the last year he was able to work with Bruce Weaver a little who gave him some GREAT advice and instruction.
The stain pattern is very similar to some of Brad Pohlmann's work (and at a FRACTION of the price). It's an excellent pipe and I can recommend Dave's work.

There were just so many pipe makers to examine during the show; I thought I've seen them all.
Apparently not!
The fit of this pipe looks great, and the stem looks very inviting.
How's the weight?
Good luck with this one.
Very nice.

I really should invest in a gram scale.
Allan, it's a rather large block of wood, but it's quite light. If I find out more I'll let you know.

Nice pick JJ! David is a really good guy too.
I really should invest in a gram scale.
The cheap metal hanging scales can be pretty accurate... They are usually sold in head shops but you can find them in seedy gas stations as well  I have a pair at the shop and they are within a couple grams of the electronic one I use at home.

That one is a stunner bigvan. I had never heard of him and just checked out his site. He makes a gorgeous pipe.
I hope she is a great smoker for you.

I got one of his early works when he first started. Figured if nothing else I was helping a new carver get started. She is still in my rotation 2 years later. He has come a long way - outstanding pipe!

that is a beauty of a pipe. It has an unusual stain on a sandblasted pipe, but I LOVE it. That is something I would be proud to own. Glad to hear she smokes well, too. Enjoy!

bigvan,

You have good taste brother, I ought to know I nabbed 2 pipes from you! ;) I have been watching David's work for awhile and every time I thought I had one of his pipes I found out it had sold only hours before. I did manage to nab one of his extended Bulldog with bamboo shank, it's on ;ay away at the moment.
