I've always been intrigued by the Ropp cherrywood pipes, but could never find one that I really liked at a price I would be willing to pay for it. Some how I came across this Ropp Deluxe, in so-so condition, with a silver repair band and a replacement stem. I actually kind of liked the way it looked as it looked like an older pipe. The previous owner must have loved the pipe as it had some heavy cake, and was in pretty scruffy condition, but it cleaned up fairly nice. I liked that it had a replacement stem because I never liked the silver Ropp logo on their stems, it just looked too modern. Price was right so I went for it. When I got it I noticed the replacement stem was some kind of twin bore stem. Normally I'm not too fond of them but this one is so drilled so large it smokes just fine.
These are pretty cool rustic pipes that smoke great if you don't push them too much. I've never smoked a cherrywood pipe before, but I am happy to say that it smokes really nice. Enjoying some Woodbridge in it now.
Anyone else have a cherrywood pipe that they like?

i have 2 cherrywood pipes, one of which i made myself. i like em both quite a bit. seems to smoke just the same as briar, and a bowl coating with honey/activated carbon keeps the wood taste out of the first few bowls. only difference i cam tell is the grain isnt as pretty as briar

They are nice pipes.
I've got an old Ropp cherrywood that I use for aromatics. Instead of a silver repair band, somebody used a 9mm shell casing. Makes it sort of unique =)

I don't have a cherrywood pipe, but my go-to carver makes a specialty of Mountain Laurel, kind of a rare material, along with doing good briar pipes. They are light weight with ample bowls. At the last pipe show, I also bought a Cocobolo pipe from him which is a handy compact. Briar isn't the only wood that works if the pipe maker knows what he's doing. The carver is Jerry Perry, and he does not sell online, only in person at the N.C. State Fair in October and the TAPS pipe show in April. I think that suits his output, and he doesn't like the photography and other tech work required, though he has a site as a pipe repairman. I admit, I like his independence and like to support that, too.
