I've been trying to 'stock up' on tobaccos recently before the U.S jacks their tobacco prices and recently I've discovered I love English/Latakia blends. I love how they smoke cooler, don't bite as bad and the way they smell and taste. But the ones I've been ordering recently are Dunhill's and McClelland etc. The nice thing about some OTC is that they're like $3.50 a pack, like SWR, H&H, Captain Black etc, but these are aromatics. Are their any of these price range tobaccos in the English/Latakia mixture genre?

At my B&M I can get an ounce of Stokkebye English Luxury or English Oriental for about $4 and that is about what you would pay online.
Here is the tobacco at P&C:

Excellent question. I'm afraid you're about 20 years too late with this quest. I'm not aware of any "drug store" blends with latakia still in production. Back when I started smoking a pipe in 1970 we had Country Doctor, Barking Dog, Blue Boar and Revelation. All are now, sadly, gone.

You're probably better served by looking at the bulk "house" blends offered by B&M's and the sponsors on this site as there are some great ones at "reasonable" prices.

Good luck with your quest.

I got a free sample of Five Brother's the other day. Let me tell you, it is a strong tobacco. At least I found it to have a hit like nothing else I've smoked. I will be using it strictly as a blender. But it's not a bad tobacco by any means, I quite enjoyed it.

Everyone should buy Carter Hall! (supporting Flint here!) 8) For economical English type you can't go wrong with the Peter Stokkebye bulk blends. I love English Oriental Supreme.

Walnut has just a touch of latakia, and, has been pointed out, is not easy to find. Fox & Hound is not bad. Other than that, there are really no otc latakia blends.

The drugstore blends are inexpensive because they don't use any imported tobaccos, just good ol' American burley. They also frequently use lower quality leaf.

You might try some of the Altadis bulk latakia blends - they have some decent ones. I like Balkan II and Byzantium.

Rajah's Court and Star of the East by Cornell and Diehl are both pretty good. Both can be had for about 30 buck a pound, which is ideal price range, in my opinion, for stocking up.

I'm a big fan of Russ Oulette's Hearth and Home smokes from Pipes and Cigars. Larry's Blend and Ten to Midnight are what I'm setting aside and I'm trying to jar up a pound or two a month. I'm also laying in the odd VaPer in case my tastes ever change. If they don't then I'll have excellent trading material.
The H&H isn't OTC priced but at 17.49 per half pound + shipping it does have the most bang for the buck. I'd much rather be setting aside Dunhill Nightcap but five tins at 9.95 each from JR Cigars + 5 bucks shipping gets lopsided real quick.

Yup, Walnut is what I would term as a nice "mild" English. Very nice relaxing smoke for sure and it mixes well with lots of other baccys. Like CH and PA, I and building a big stockpile of the "Codger Blends"
