Charatan Question

Are Charatan reg. numbers of any use in determining the manufacturing date of a pipe? Is there any archive where these numbers can be researched? Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

I do not believe so. The records of the original family owned company were destroyed in German bombing raids. Lane era pipes sold I us have florid l on them generally check search functions many articles on charatan. Shel

There are archives, they're just not specific to the company

They're UK, and can be searched with a bit of patience and experience

But all they'll tell you is the year of registration, not year of production

So you'll have the start date of a range, but the end date will require other indicators

This is a Lane Era pipe and based on nomenclature probably manufactured between '62 and '65. But a web search didn't produce anything on Reg. #s.
