Our former sponsor tobaccopipes.com used to carry twenty or so Chapuis-Comoy pipes, a sub-brand of Comoy in France, well produced smooth finish briars at low-low prices, less than $40, as I recall. I think they are down to one Dublin now, though I haven't checked lately. These were marketed as starter pipes, or travel pipes. I bought one straight Dublin with a slightly canted bowl, that could have been a zulu with the slightest bend in the stem. This was a really good line of economy pipes, and I have mentioned them on Forums several times, especially when newbies are asking about lower priced pipes. I've never seen anyone mention they owned one. Any Chapuis-Comoy owners out there? I think mine is a good pipe, nicely finished and a dependable smoker.

voorhees, it is confusing. Part of the company de-camped to England and produced there for many years. Maybe the connection was more familial than managerial. I'm quite sure the Chapuis-Comoy are entirely from the French side of the family. I think the French pipe making community is very proud, and they rarely produce a real clunker. They probably originated the briar pipe, at least in Europe, and instituted many of the "traditional" shapes that Dunhill adopted and is so proud of. Plus, many distinctive French shapes and styles of shapes.

The Chapuis-Comoy lower-priced line seems to run mostly under the radar. Not many know about these pipes. Mostly people know and buy the Comoy's or the Chacom's.
