That's why I like non-aromatics, because they are tobacco-centered and hence odd tastes are more often casing or topping and easier to detect and reject. Aromatic flavorings, like flavorings in foods and fragrance in scented products, are probably more often chemically created and not what they are named at all, whether it is "cherry" or "caramel" or whatever. I enjoy aromatics regularly, but I do keep that in mind. The stated flavoring is often a euphemism for a chemically concocted flavor. Maybe the underlying point is that tastes change decisively all the time. That's why I suggest to new pipe smokers, and really anyone else, not to stock up too greatly on any blend, since you may lose the taste for it, or just get tired of it. If you have a favorite blend that you order over and over, then go for it, buy a few five-pound bags. But most of us aren't designed that way. I think a pound at a time is plenty for me, and only for time-tested blends. I like lots of blends in small quantities, more appetizing.
