Chamber Lining/Coating

Hey everyone. I'm not specifically "new" to pipe smoking, but I am new to new pipes. I was fortunate enough to inherit my grandfathers and fathers pipe collection after they passed (about 15 pipes). So I've always used those for the last few years. I have recently started building and adding to the collection with my preference types. My question is about the coating or lining that is put in the chamber of some pipes that is a dark color. Some pipes have a coating in the chamber and others are natural wood. Is the "break-in" period the same for both? And is there a different way to take care of either types before they build a cake?

Not at all. Load 'em up and smoke 'em. ::

Never followed any regimen for breaking in a new pipe just took to smoking them, considered that the break in.

Nope. Happened to me with a Vauen pipe.

Wow! This is the first time I've heard anything like that. What in the world is Vauen coating their bowls with? Did it taste odd?

That's weird, have three of their Auenlands with no issue.
