I've seen carburetor systems with three holes on the bottom of the bowl. I saw several estate pipes (I cannot recall the brand) at my local antique shop/pipe treasure box the other day that all had three rectangular holes arranged side by side on the stem. I assume this is another version of a carb.
Is the idea to let your finger drift across them to adjust airflow? I don't hold pipes by the stem, so if that is the technique, it seems awkward.
Has anyone tried these? Are they a gimmick? Would you be quick to drop $20 on a clean, sterilized estate billiard with this system?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like one of these .I don't own one as I don't care for stingers or filters .Others say they are fine smokers . http://www.eacarey.com/magicinchinfo.html

Gimmicks. Reminds me of those asinine commercials one sees on TV for things that never work for $19.95 (plus shipping). But... wait, there's more! lol
