Captain Black is considered by many to be bottom of the barrel OTC crap that nobody who is serious about pipe smoking should smoke. Reasons for this assessment include CB being super-laden with propylene glycol, lots of additives, and having a chemical/artificial taste that is nothing like true tobacco flavour. Some might also wrinkle their nose at it because it's an aromatic.

The same applies to Borkum Riff.

Yes, to each their own, but I'd still smoke something more decent, like MacBaren 7 Seas.

It's worth noting that Craptain Black is one of the best selling blends, If not the number one blend. Its on par with most aromatics to me.. smoke it slowly and dry it well.

I do not believe mixing the 2 would create the Royal blend.. I bet that mixture would smoke just fine though.

As far as additives and PG and all those buzz words.. that we hear about a lot.. all pipe tobacco has additives and preservatives.
