Cannoy Suede

From yesterday's SP new pipe email comes this awe inspiring Walt Cannoy Lovat. Exquisite form and uber-sophisticated suede finish. Too rich for my blood but a lustful object nonetheless.

Man, I love those Walt Cannoy suede pipes sooo much! The most interesting pipe finish I think I've ever seen. I'm like you darwin, way to rich for my blood, but fun to lust after alright! :mrgreen:

I just couldn't stand it any more so I ordered the gorgeous little darlin'. Most I've ever spent on a pipe, by a factor of nearly three but what the hell life is short and the hours are long. If the proverbial rainy day comes along I'll just duck under an eave and smoke this beauteous beastie. Relativity--it's expensive for me but on 'tother hand it's no dearer than an off-the-rack garden variety Dullhill. Looking at the stated dimensions it might well be a killer flake smoker.

Redbeard at $550 I can only just barely afford it but any lingering PAD urges have been beaten into submission for a good long while.

Darwin, congratulations on your new pipe! Boy are you in for a treat!
If you've never owned one of my pipes before, you'll find that the tobacco chamber is sanded nice and smooth, but I assure you there is no stain or lacquer in there... (I don't post often, but I do pay attention to what's going on here! :D ) It requires no special treatment or "break-in", just load it up and enjoy!
One warning though, just be careful as you are smoking it that you don't get mesmerized by staring at the blast and get lost in the grain. :D The photos on SmokingPipes.com aren't nearly detailed enough to give you a good idea of what the blast looks like, so here's a photo of your pipe that I took before it got shipped off to them:

Thanks ever so much Mr. C. This sort of personal touch from such a craftsman is highly gratifying. On Wednesday about this time I shall be setting a flame to some ODF, or possibly Escudo, in this sueded beauty. Speaking of suede the visual aspect of the blast I get from this image seem to evoke a feeling more like "linen". Also it strikes me that this treatment is likely to be much more intolerant of briar flaws than most sandblast finishes. Can't wait to see it. PAD is regrettable but Pipe Anticipation Disorder is a very special sort of torture.

Finally have it in my hands and what an exquisite thing it is indeed. So pretty I'm almost afraid to fire it up but nevertheless a couple of coins of Escudo are about to make its acquaintance.

Yes, this blast will not cover flaws much larger than a pin-point. It still requires very well grained and high quality briar. Only the best for my customers! :D
Also, even after over fifteen years, I am still very excited about each pipe that I make... They are like my children being born, and I like to take pictures during the process. I thought you might enjoy these few shots of your pipe in its infancy!

Bloody 'ell Mr. Walt. I would scarcely have expected such wonderful feedback even if I had actually commissioned the pipe for myself. I'm only on my third bowl, ODF at this very moment in fact, but it already smokes a treat. The chimney-esque dimensions of the bowl will make this a flake pipe supreme. I did taste the wood on my first bowl but unlike most pipes that taste was bright and delightful. I shall endeavor to be a thoughtful steward of this obviously lovingly made exemplar of the art of the briar. Thanks again--Mark M.

Thanks. I am having one big problem with this pipe and that is keeping my hands off of it long enough to give it proper rest.
